Wonder how your DevOps efforts compare to others in the industry? Atlassian recently surveyed 500 software development and IT professionals about their tools and practices and released seven key findings from their research. Namely, the average respondee uses 3.3 different tools to unearth the status of a project (the company notes that for Jira users, it’s a mere 2.3); a full three-fourths of dev teams face bugs, defects, or delays at release; 71% of teams who use microservices report that it’s easier to test or deploy features; and 47% of teams ship changes and receive customer feedback faster with a CI/CD cloud solution.
Clearly, where DevOps is making inroads, it is having a pronounced effect on outcomes. Yet, there is work to still be done as 62% report that they resort to manual testing due to insufficient automated test coverage, additional manual processes and/or a lack of build/deployment pipeline automation.
- Making waves this week was the announcement by JFrog that it intends to acquire Shippable, a continuous integration and DevOps automation platform company. According to the two companies, Shippable’s portfolio of cloud-native and Kubernetes-ready CI/CD solutions will be incorporated into the JFrog platform.
- Git 2.21 has been released which includes features and bug fixes from over 60 contributors. The group notes that new features include a new date format, git clone now detects and reports colliding groups during the initial checkout, multi-pack indexes, delta islands and more.
- TriggerMesh launched its second Open Source project aimed at the goal of making multi-cloud cloud-native applications possible. Called Knative Lambda Sources or KLASS, the project leverages events services on AWS to trigger functions within Knative and Kubernetes, allowing cloud-native developers to create sophisticated cross-cloud applications using simple serverless functions in multiple clouds.
- Radware announced its Cloud Workload Protection service for AWS. Designed to help operators safeguard their role in cloud providers’ shared responsibility model. According to the announcement, Radware’s service uniquely addresses cloud security posture, detection of cloud native attacks, and consequent/respective actionable insights.
- And in other AWS DevOps security news, Baffle has announced what it deems the first-to-market solution for data-centric protection of AWS Lambda. Baffle reports that its Advanced Data Protection Service gives enterprises the ability to provide a common data security model for existing infrastructure while also accelerating the lift and shift to serverless computing services such as AWS Lambda.
